Certified Outfit perfect the art of smooth party anthems thru their latest offering featuring Dallas artist King Sonny, “Down 2 Ride”. Possessing strong songwriting abilities and precise rhyme schemes, Swindle and Church utilize their love for old school rides and the gangsta funk movement made famous by the Westside of the map.
Church stated the inspiration behind the making of the beat came from acts such as Zapp and Roger, Dazz Band, One Way and Gap Band. “That morning, I was playing Chaka Khan “Ain’t Nobody” and was trying to come up with something that had that same synthesizer funk feel. I wanted to make sure that I had those vintage Westcoast elements like the Moog synth bass line and old Roland synth leads and pads.”
Swindle came with the idea of doing something old school or along those lines and in doing so, the duo began penning verses in true Doug E Fresh & Slick Rick fashion. The back and forth approach really adds a vintage overlay to it and together with Texas native King Sonny, the catchy chorus solidifies this as a truly great record.
The video was directed by Landoe for Vivid Visual Films. He does a spectacular job of portraying the whole WashHouse lifestyle with only a few mere minutes. The guys are currently at work on two upcoming projects as well as debuting new music as part of their “Fish Friday” releases. Here is the “Down 2 Ride” video from Certified Outfit and King Sonny.
